Ella

Deputy Manager

I discovered my love for working with children when I began my role as a pool helper in the evenings at a local swimming pool - seeing the children so excited to learn really did ignite a spark inside of me to want to work with children further. This led me to work and train as an apprentice in a private day nursery for over 3 years, completing my level 2 and 3 in childcare. I progressed in my role to a deputy room leader to eventually became the room leader of the baby room. Once I had my first child, I moved on to becoming a childminder and worked with my mum for over 7 years, before joining the team at Redwood and have progressed into my role as Deputy which I thoroughly enjoy! I have over 15 years experience in looking after children.

My favourite aspect of the job is building a special bond with the children, as if they are our own, and sparking their curiosity about the world around them.

I have two children. My eldest is profoundly deaf which led me to achieve my level 3 in British Sign Language and become part of the Deaf world. Giving the children the chance to learn British Sign Language in our setting has been incredible. Watching the children (especially the 2 year olds) signing words spontaneously during their day, makes me so proud of what we do! Signing their name to them and hearing them tell me "that's my name!" is so rewarding.

Sparking the children's curiosity about the world around them is something I love too. I cook with the children a great deal and love the opportunities it gives them, as we make pizza, fruit skewers, mini omelettes and even a vegetable stir-fry! Overall, if I had to choose, the most favourite part about my job is learning all the children’s different personalities and ways and becoming part of their journey as they grow and develop into confident, inquisitive and caring children.
